Gold Cliff (1988)

A nice enough platform game, platforms appear and disappear in fixed patterns the next one always close to the last creating a stair with mostly 2 steps visible at one time, this continues al the way to the top screen. If you happen to fall down, even from the top screen, you're kindly not killed, but have to start all over again, waiting for the platform to appear near you again. At certain points crabs will appear at the bottom which are obviously fatal to the touch. You can however jump over them. The jump button makes you jump one 'level' when tapped once and two when held down longer.

Once you reach the top screen you have to jump to get the key which is hanging to the right side of the, you then usually fall all the way down, but if your lucky you can fall down onto a appearing platform below you. You'll then have to get up there again and insert the key in the lock at the top left. After repeating this several times, your next mission will be to climb up to grab the sword hanging from the left cliff, then go up again and fight the monster at the top by pushing 'up' in the top position where there seems to be a crack in the rock, you can only hit him when he is directly above you and waiting for him can be rather difficult since you're constantly standing on disappearing platforms...

A continue feature is included (like in Zelda) that allows you to, well continue, at the level you died, I personally greatly appreciate this, although it cuts the lifespan of the game obviously shorter, this is actually not a discussion I want to get into...

I personally think that the top screen could have been more fun, it's essentially the same as the lower and therefore redundant, the key and the sword could have been included in the bottom screen, leaving room at the top screen for some 'inside tomb' scenes where you fight monsters without having to jump all the time. Still I like this game.
