These games are not finished yet by any means, but I will only further develop them when there seems to be enough interest in it, so feel free to e-mail me with your comments.

Handheld LCD games, why bother?

This site should be rated 21+, not because of adult content but because unless you're at least that old, you will not have played these games when you were a kid and it is very unlikely that you are interested in them. Only those of us old enough to have played them as our first videogames ever, are fortunate enough to appreciate them for the gems that they are, or unfortunate enough to be blinded by their nostalgia, take your pick...

The limited possibilities that they have are what makes them so charming, because the designers were forced to be very creative to produce an actual game out of it.
The designs of the casings were often very beautiful, pleasing to the eye even today.

LCD games that are still being produced today, mostly by Tiger, don't interest me one bit, because they seem to lack the charm of the old ones, in casings, sprites and gameplay. The very brightly colored large and strangely formed units today seem to be aimed at the youngest kids, although the early games had roughly the same audience, something seems to be missing. Gameplay? Clearly the games I'm about to review don't have any gameplay at all compared to today's overall videogames, read the reviews in the proper context of those days, it's all about appreciating the use of the limited resources that an LCD game offers.

For some strange reason VFD games, even the old ones, fail to capture my interest as well, maybe because I didn't play much of them when I was young and the much needed nostalgia factor is missing for me, the VERY early LED games are just taking retrogaming a bit too far in my opinion, you can emulate most of those games with your numlock/capslock/scroll lock LEDs on your keyboard...

As I explained above, my motivation to collect these games is from a very personal point of view, therefore I don't intend to collect all of them, I'm mostly interested in LCD's from Bandai, Nintendo and Gakken, you won't find a big complete collection here anytime soon!

Well, enjoy my reviews and happy gaming & collecting!
