Hikyo Amazon (double panel, solar powered) (1982)

This game is a bit chaotic, but still fun.

In the upper screen you seem to control the same guy that was featured in Terror House his job now is to recover a treasure from within a cave in the amazon. At the top left there is a gorilla who throws rocks at you in a Donkey Kong style and at the top right some sort of Yeti seems to have teamed up with him. There are 3 levels in which you can maneuver, with a waterfall in the middle which transport logs which have to be avoided as well. At the left bottom side occasionally a dragon appears breathing fire at you at the middle and the top left some sort of prehistoric bird seems to be attacking you. The top and middle right is guarded by a vicious bird and finally the bottom right is the home of a crocodile. The gorilla and the Yeti occasionally disappear allowing you to enter the cave at the top. After you've reached the cave a number of times you will proceed to the lower screen.

Here you will be exploring the caves, where you have to avoid a giant spider at the left, a falling stalactite at the top and a giant lizard at the right. At the top of the screen there can be a number of things one cave to the left, one to the right, or both, you can chose your path yourself, but the right one that leads to the treasure seems to be random. The caves are usually guarded by a few bats, which have to be killed first, they can however not kill you. There are some nice skeletons of previously less successful explorers scattered around on the floor randomly, which add to the atmosphere. Sometimes you can reach a dead end forcing you to turn back and chose another path. Finally you will find a treasure, which will end your quest. Quite unusual for a handheld to have actual cave-exploring, offering you a chose of path. It really adds to the gameplay and makes it a great game. The 'enormous' number of different enemies, make the game a bit confusing to play though, especially in the upper screen.
