Strange that the title should contain 'bros' since it's an abbreviation of brothers and Luigi is nowhere to be seen...This game tries to make the most of a lcd game: the screen is completely clear of scenery so that there is a lot of room for the crystals to do their work. Mario has to walk from the left to the right to reach the next level. You have to press the button to the right to get a point that is extracted from the starting score, when it reaches zero you'll proceed to the next level. The screens scrolls from the right to the left, but as long as you don't walk to the right yourself you won't proceed and the level will continue endlessly, the platforms that are presented to you will have to be negotiated by jumping and avoiding falling down which will cost you a life. The following levels introduce bullets which have to be avoided. and the platforms will change in such a fashion that it will be possible to get trapped by the walls, not unlike squish. There is an overwhelming total of 64 levels (8 Worlds/8 Levels) and a Zelda/Goldcliff like continue function would have been much appreciated here...Later on there are mushrooms, stars, hammers and princesses which all undoubtely contribute to enormous gamplay fun, I however haven't reached those stages yet...
This game is much too difficult and frustrating for my taste, but a fair attempt at introducing a sense of really progressing through different levels, although the gameplay involes only boring jumping. The sprites are drawn much more detailed than the earlier lcd games.
This game also has a 'cheat' function, when the jump button is pressed while pressing 'game' you can start at world 3, which will immediatley show you how difficult this game can get...
